About Us
2008

Becca Tointon, President of the Midland Newcomers Club had four bridesmaid dresses hanging in her closet and wanted them to go to a good cause.   She tried to find a local agency that collected them, but found none.  So she approached Kristine Ehlers, Family Services Director at North Midland Family Center  about starting a new project.  “Share the Memories” was created and is a project under NMFC in cooperation w/ the Midland Newcomers Club.

Both organizations have worked very hard over the past year to create a successful project.  They even visited “Hope Closet” in Royal Oak, MI to ask questions and view their dress distribution in progress.  Hope Closet donated 300 dresses to our cause.

The purpose of Share the Memories is to give underprivileged high school aged girls the opportunity to attend prom by alleviating the barrier of lack of finanacial resources to purchase a prom dress by providing them with a prom dress. Our goal is to give away 500 dresses for Prom 2009 .

2009 was our inaugural year and it was a huge success! We gave away 100 dresses to girls form 13 different area high schools. Distribution of the dresses this year took place March 19-22, 2009 at the Midland Community Center. We also had a raffle for prom-related giveaways like manicures, hairdos, flowers and dinners.

2010 we held our 2nd annual event March 18 - 20 at the Midland Community Center. 155 dresses were given away to girls from 42 area high schools - 50% Midland County. Thank you to our 50 volunteers and all of our sponsors for a wonderful event!

2011 was the year that proved our volunteers are mega-important and over the top awesom! Becca came downwith strep and her son was in the hospital, so she couldnot be at the event to provide direction and answer questions. The volunteers each day stepped up and took control! In the end, we gave away almost another 200 dresses! thank you Volunteers!!!

2012 we had 185 girls visit from over 30 area high schools!!!

2013 This year we were bigger and better. We had 285 girls from Midland area high schools that helped us celebrate our five-year anniversary. Door prizes were awarded to each participant with a "5" in their registration number. New to our raffle this year was a 4 our limo rental! Lou E Loon came and helped us set up our event!
